Mapping Health
Timelapse Video
2014

Two time-lapse visualizations show data for 500 Seattle Obesity Study participants whose movements were tracked with GPS devices. The first video visualizes participants' physical activity over the course of 24 hours. Blue paths map to slower speeds (e.g. walking, running, or biking) and white paths map to higher speeds (e.g. driving or taking public transit). The second video visualizes participants' proximity to supermarkets. When people get within 100 meters of supermarkets, the supermarket markers become larger signifying its cumulative proximity to common routes.
